A COVID-19 Note from Executive Director Ken Dixon

After hosting this camp at Newington Arena in June and receiving great feedback, we are very excited to be back on the ice at ISCC! We have been working very closely with the rink to ensure that athletes, our staff and anyone else involved will be safe upon our return to the rink. We will be abiding by a new set of rules provided by ISCC as well as guidelines offered by USA Hockey.

Our format for providing this program will offer ten hours of instruction in one week, with five two-hour sessions. This will minimize the volume of potential contacts with others. Because of distancing guidelines, there are a very limited number of spots available on the ice.

As rink guidelines are finalized, we will be preparing a specific list of rules and standards for players to follow during the program in order to keep everyone safe. We will communicate these rules very clearly prior to the start of camp. Players who do not comply (for example, with mask or social distancing guidelines) may be dismissed from the camp.

While participation details as still being finalized, we expect:

  • Limiting our capacity to 20 skaters and 2 goalies.
  • Practice plans to be developed to maintain as much distancing as possible on the ice. Our inclination at this point is towards no direct contact drills. We expect there will be drills where athletes challenge/redirect opponents using stick and body positioning, but they will be instructed to not body check.
  • Locker rooms will be configured to provide spacing between athletes and sanitized between each group of athletes.
  • Specific arrival and departure windows will be assigned to athletes to minimize contact in common areas.
  • If concerns exist relative to locker room contact, spaces will be available in lobby for athletes to change their equipment.
  • Athletes will need to wear masks upon entering the rink and can remove masks only when taking the ice.
